UX Designer

Part Time / 6 Month Contract

BFB Labs provides digital therapy for a new generation.

We help young people build lifelong skills to self manage their mental health through non-stigmatising, highly engaging and evidence based digital therapeutic interventions (game) that also provide real time demographic, engagement and health outcomes data. 

BFB Labs provides state of the art digital therapeutics for better youth mental health and is creating a new way of building resilience in a whole generation. Our products fuse evidence-based therapeutic approaches with immersive and responsible gaming making them highly engaging, scientifically robust and cost-effective.

THE ROLE

This role plays a significant role in the development of our new and innovative digital intervention, and the user and service experience that underpins it. This is an opportunity to work alongside the Product Director, Researcher and the wider team to design a high quality, impactful and engaging solution for young people with Low Mood and Depression.

Key Responsibilities

Your main focus will be on designing the core user experience for the new solution, and crafting the overall experience. You’ll build upon our existing research and co-creation work to bring the experience and solution to life. You will be:

  • Leading the user experience design of a new digital therapeutic

  • Lead the foundational UX design for our new solution.

  • Lead on creating an engaging experience for young people (13-25 years of age)

  • Work with the a cross functional team to design, test and develop the  solution

  • Develop consistent, intuitive and user-centred designs

  • Use processes such as user journey maps, flows, wireframes, prototypes, & high fidelity designs.

  • Supporting the translation of the design into user stories ready for development. 

  • Prototyping, testing and refining concepts

  • Effectively collaborate on concept creation, user journeys, test plans, prototyping, analysing test results and making rapid iterations

  • Help the team to identify key assumptions and develop creative strategies to test them

  • Create low fidelity prototypes that realise the user experience - ready to test

  • On occasion support the delivery of co-creation workshops and focus groups with key stakeholders

ESSENTIAL

Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of prototyping tools and methodologies. 

  • Extensive knowledge of Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, InVision/Miro – or similar

  • Good understanding of data-driven design strategies for mobile and web applications

  • Understanding of user-centred design 

  • Awareness of the process entailing translation of design to code/languages (i.e. HTML / CSS)

  • Knowledge of design approaches for gamification and/or high engagement experiences 

  • Creative approaches to problems and ability to juggle multiple priorities

Experience:

  • At least 2 years relevant experience in a product team

  • Completed a user experience design, interaction design or comparable qualification or have relevant experience

  • A portfolio of design work that demonstrates the skills and experience desired in the job description

  • Working with data from users/customers and feeding them into design solutions

  • Skilled in making and communicating decisions with a logical approach 

  • Ideally worked in cross functional teams within an Agile environment

What we offer:

  • Contract:  Fixed term (6 months to start with potential for extension), Part time (20 hours a week)

  • Start date: Start of November 2024

  • Salary: £15,000 - £17,000 per annum - 20 hours per week

  • Holidays: Annual leave calculated on a pro rata basis (based on 28 days per annum for full time employees)
